Solar radiation area and intensity on winter solstice are analyzed by using a computer simulation method, according to the azimuth angle, distance between blocks and the layout pattern of blocks. The results are follows; (1)Firstly, solar radiation condition of paralleled block arrangement according to the azimuth angle is examined. The daily amount of solar radiation is almost constant until the azimuth angle is up to 30 degree. But it rapidly goes down as the azimuth angle increases when the angle exceeds 30 degrees. With the angle of 90 degrees, the daily amount of solar radiation of the building facade is reduced to 26.8% of the south faced one. (2)In pararelled block arrangement, solar radiation conditions according to the distance between the blocks are examined. The total daily amount of solar radiation increased to the amount of 8.8% with the gains of 0.1 of distance-height ratio. And when the distance is doubled, the total daily amount of solar radiation goes up to the 1.75 times. But the increasing effect of solar radiation is gradually reduced with a growing azimuth angle in spite of increasing distance-height ratio. (3)The solar radiation conditions according to the orientation of the housing blocks in paralleled and crossed arrangement are compared on condition that the building density is constant. In case of south-faced location, the total amount of solar radiation of crossed block arrangement is 85.4% of the paralleled one. Less than the 45 degrees of azimuth angle, paralleled block arrangement provides more solar radiation that crossed one.
