The purpose of this study was to analyze the contemporary types and characteristics of spatial composition of rural housing in Korea. So, we'd like to provide basic data of rural housing design, when we plan to design of it. This research was done by the field survey of 22 rural village which has three types of village in our country.
There are various types and different factors between farmhouse and non-farmhouse in rural housing. And through analysis of space function or floor plan of them, farmhouse was designed by type of central living room Especially, spatial characteristics was considered by extensity and flexibility. Otherwise non-farmhouse was designed by type of central hall and privacy. The results of this study obtained through the analysis of changeful rural society and contemporary rural housing, have two style of farmhouse and non-farmhouse which is increasing, various types of rural housing, and spatial characteristics of flexible planning.
