This paper deals with the characteristic of apartment building types, which were suggested in the public housing competitions in 1990s. It is generally agreed that apartment building types have direct impact on the physical form and planning of the site and the building type variations correspond to the condition of the surrounding environment.
The building types of the public apartment was classified into 34 types by morphologocal analysis. The building types are influenced by the site orientation, length and breadth ratio, the existence of natural resources (mountain, river etc). This inclination is presented well in small-scale, narrow site more than large-scale, quadrangle site. These various apartment building types were derived from different morphological ideas and might contribute to the quality of urban landscape.
