Objectives: The purpose was to examine the differences in measurements on skull lateral radiograph and skull posteroanterior radiograph between normal individuals and sleep-disordered breathing(SDB) individuals. Methods: Twenty adult individuals with SDB(SDB group) and twenty four normal individuals(control group) took the skull lateral radiograph and the skull posteroanterior radiograph. After tracing the radiograph, measurements of each radiographs for position of hyoid bone, length and width of the soft palate, posterior soft tissue thickness and anteroposterior width of upper airway, and transverse width of upper airway were identified and compared between two groups. Results: (1) PNS-P (40.68±7.52 mm) of the SDB group meaning the length of soft palate was longer than the PNS-P (35.82±4.32 mm) of control group on skull lateral radiograph (P= .0027). But there was no significant difference in maxP meaning the width of soft palate between two groups (P= .052). (2) Though the C₁-PhW of SDB group meaning the posterior soft tissue thickness was 4.58 mm and that of control group was 4.55 mm on skull lateral radiograph, there was no significant difference between two groups (P= .90). (3) Among the SPAS, min PAS, P-PhW, IASB, and IASRGN meaning anteroposterior width of the upper airway, the SPAS, min PAS, and P-PhW of SDB group were narrower than that of the control group but there were no significant difference in IASB, and IASRGN on skull lateral radiograph (P< .01). (4) TD (Minimal pharyngeal transverse diameter) of the upper airway of SDB group (16.50±3.24 mm) was narrower than that (21.33±2.76 mm) of control group on the skull posteroanterior radiograph (P< .01). Conclusions: SDB and control groups show differences in a number of radiographic measurements. The analysis of the skull lateral and the skull posteroanterior radiographs provide some information regarding the prediction of the SDB.
