Recently, a novel inverter circuit using the resonant phenomena s proposed to reduce the switching loss of the power emiconductors In this kind of inverter the power semiconductor switches turn on or turn off only at the zero voltage points or at the zero current points to eliminate switching loss. Because of this restnction of the switching points, the regulation of output current of he resonant inverter is worse than that of the conventional PWM nverter at the same switching frequency. But, due to the no virtual switching loss the switching frequency of the resonant inverter can be extended by an order of the PWM inverter.
In the resonant inverter the switching instants and pulse durations are given by the resonant circuit. Hence the problem of the current modulation is reduced to finding the next optimal switching state(Voltage Vector) at the every switching instant. The best voltage vector which minimizes RMS current error can be chosen as the next voltage vector. This modulation technique is the best one, but the implementation of the technique is not so easy. Because the calculation of RMS errors'at the seven different vectors cannot be completed within the one pulse interval of the resonant inverter even with a currently available digital signal processor(DSP). In this paper authors propose a novel current regulator which chooses the nearest available voltage vector to the predicted desired voltage vector It is proved that the proposed regulator is equivalent to the modulator which minimize RMS current error. The performance of the regulator is tested by the computer simulations. The effects of the parameter and estimation error in the back emf are considered. The performance of the current regulator is compared with Pulse Density Modulation( PDM) regulators. The implementation of the regulator using a DSP is described.
