In this paper I have tried to show that the synchronic phonological process of um]aut in various regional dialects of Korea must be viewed as not a subject of qualitative phenomenaCall-or-nothing). but as quanti?tative phenomenaCa matter of more-or-less). I observed to the effect that the effects of pragmatic principles extend to the process of Korean umlaut, that is. the way umlauted forms are used in everyday life depends upon the sensitive intention of speaker and the contexts in which the communicative act is performed. In this connection, I have described in this paper many kinds of analogical extensions of Korean umlaut.
As a consequence.
