This paper seeks to find the real motivation for the behavior of
Korean women, in their lives. To investigate how they think and live, 26 women were interviewed informally. The questions were as follows: 1) the motivation for solving their own problems and the reasons for their decision-making; 2) the stories of their weddings to examine the reasons for their parents' decisions; 3) their opinion about pregnancy, childbirth, child education, ete.
The result of the research suggests that Korean women do not make decisions by themselves on important matters in their lives. They are very much restrained by their environments, for example family relations and/or economic factors. It is natural and easy for them to follow the ways of their family. Furthermore, they do not live independently, but let their lives go through the course of socia-cultural customs, like water flowing downwards in a stream.
In appearance, the traditional Confucian codes of conduct no longer
hold power for Korean women. ne author argues however, that these conducts are still valid albeir in different forms wirh different factors. It can be concluded that Korean women do in fact srill live as passively as women did under the strict codes of conduct in tradirional Confucian society. nus, a new task of promoting a healthy way of thinking in Korean women musr be led so that they can contribute towards building a good society.
