The purpose of this article is to criticize theories of Korean civil society and to make an alternative proposal It's not enough to explain the transformation of Korean civil society With Marxist theory and liberalist theory which were on a controversy.
This article analyzes the definite and experienced context of Korean civil society with Habermas' theory and tries to help to understand transformation of Korean civil society and political terram with various concepts such as system, life world, civil society and public sphere
Analytical division of life world and civil society, premodernity in the Korean life world, the Importance of the public sphere, the distinctive trait of the Korean public sphere and the difference of online- and offline-generation might help Korean characteristics and political actions to be comprehended renewly
In conclusion, I would insist that the Korean civil society and development of public sphere have power to change the life world in which premodernistic consciousness was embedded And in the future I think the problems such as feudal/new-liberalist economic system, the state power, and Irrational political system would be deliberated on the public spheres
