The twenty first century is the century of the environment.
Environmental concepts are emphasized in every field including society and economy. Human beings are seriously recognizing the bad effects caused by the 20th century's life style. For the Sustainable Development of human beings' civilization, four important elements are required :
1) technological possibility, 2) economical feasibility, 3) cultural receptivity, and 4) the solution of environmental problems.
Human beings' economic activities cause small or big environmental destructions. Until now, given the volume of environmental contamination, the earth fortunately had enough self-cleaning capability. However, the pessimistic predictions, of the explosion of population and a shortage of food and resources, are coming. Environmental issues to conserve nature are considered more important. Therefore, environmental problems are solved in the port development today. The cooperation among adjacent countries is needed to solve these environmental problems.
The main summary of this thesis is following:
1. To conserve the marine environment effectively, the cooperation among adjacent countries is needed.
2. South Korea, North Korea, China, Russia, and Japan must make efforts to decrease and prevent the marine contamination through the cooperative system.
3. Considering the environmental affinity, new harbor development and existing maintenance facilities must be coexistent with the ecological system.
4. To minimize the environmental contamination and destruction, the intensive production and storage facilities must be reviewed.
5. The exchange of environmental information and data and the exchange of scholars and technicians related to environment must be extended.
