The 21st Century is a century of life. Why should we argue on the issue of life when our span of life is unprecedentedly long today? That's because not only human beings but also the community of all creatures is confronting the crisis of life-destruction. This life-destruction phenomenon is not just personal or local but rather global. The study of life has been implemented by science & technology for industrial concerns and interests instead of the necessity of ethical and religious aspects. Even Christians who confess that all lives are created by God and the will of God is contained in those lives, are insensible to embryo transplanting, generation technology, human duplication, viscera dealing, misuse of science & technology, unethical commercialism in life science etc.
On the other hand, they say, "The 21st Century is an era of feminist ministry." Now concern for feminist ministry has arisen in various aspects. Especially as this year (2005) is the fiftieth anniversary of women first being ordained in the history of Korean church. The Presbyterian Church of Korea (Tonghap) which I belong to, had a meaningful conference in remembrance of the tenth anniversary of women ordination, reflecting past 10 years, rendering down the activities of women pastors, and prospecting the future this September. The number of women pastors is gradually increasing. Now we begin to think over what can be the advantageous difference between ministry monopolized by male pastors and that of women pastors. Under these circumstances the concern for feminist ministry is being raised. Since ministry has been defined by male pastors and theologians over two thousand years of church history, the concept of feminist ministry needs more time and persevering work. In spite of the fact that the theory and theology of feminist ministry has not yet formed, the women pastoral field in ministry has increased. So, we came to face an urgent demand.
In this study I will look over the life-killing anti-peaceful realties of our world, and try to find a theological point of view concerning wholistic life in order to respond to the world wide emergency. And I will also try to discern the tasks of life ministry which save and share life. Finally, I will search for a methodology which can make the tasks realized through checking the fields of feminist ministry that apply feminist principles.
