In 19-20 century, in order to explain modernization, by which to observe the affection that reason exerted in the procedure of culture development and to discover the special character of the society, Max Weber, the representative to contemporary and succeeding philosophers and sociologists, achieved a long term and efficient, numerous and significant studies on prosper of capitalism and on the reason why capitalism formed an idea of "force overwhelm world", consequently an explain mode to discover modern reason society appeared.
Weber emphasized, on prepare of capitalism, no large theory distinguish existed between East and West. They respectively hold a strong base of constitution and material to support the reasonable economic behavior. Failing to develop capitalism in china is due to the lack of spirit support. Confucian culture pursues stability and harmony, "fear inequality, not poverty", and once being rich, extravagantly indulging, elegantly enjoying and thus losing the strong will to struggle, lacking the idea of transferring faculty to the capital accumulation. Weber's conclusion brought a hot objection coming from the modern Confucian who attempt to recover the Confucian culture. They said Weber incorrectly regarded Confucian as an utter unity.
In fact, Confucian is abundant in ideology and complicated in its factions, among which, some conservative, some demanding reform. Weber does not think china has reformer, but the fact is just Contrary. China's official Confucian, after Han Dynasty, is not representing ex Han Dynasty's primitive Confucian any longer, 'The Dao that Yao, Sun, Sanwang, Zhougong and Kongzi sponsored has yet not realized in the world". In Confucian culture, there are also some factors beneficial to modernization and interior transcend, it is not unfit with capitalism developing, as is proved by the prosper of industrial east Asia. Confucian philosophy still has its universal value.
Rectification and criticize to Weberism is in fact a new realization to Confucian tradition and Chinese culture. New view point and style of this, will deeply affect the philosophy and culture communication between East and West in 21 century.
