The objective of this study is to investigate the characteristics of RI-CNG engine, as one of RI series engines' research, RI-CNG engine is set up based on lots of former studies, the CVC study and RI gasoline engine study etc. Because of these series studies, in this study, a single cylinder direct injection diesel engine was modified into conceptual RI-CNG engine, and an optimized sub-chamber is employed on this engine. All parameters of this sub-chamber are derived from former study. Focusing on the characteristics investigation is the dominant to develop a conceptual CNG engine with RI method. Comparison with RI gasoline engine, RI-CNG engine have solved the fatal demerit, it fueled to sub-chamber directly instead manifold fuel injection. So this engine can improve the combustion stability by scavenging the residual gas in sub-chamber. Besides, RI engine exhaust gas characteristics were investigated.
