I make a comparative research between the animal allegories of Korea and China in this paper. I specifically examined several allegories, such as Liu Zong-yuan(柳宗元, 773~819)'s A deer of Yimgang(臨江之?) and Gi-Joon(奇遵, 1492~1521)'s Breeding a deer(畜獐說), Song-gi(宋祁, 998~1061)'s A wild goose guard(雁奴) and Choi-Yeon(崔演, 1503~1549)'s A story of a wild goose guard(雁奴說), and A hedgehog and A tiger(刺?與橡斗) in Gye-an-rok(啓顔錄) and A tiger that bows to a chestnut tree(밤나무에 절하는 호랑이) in Korean oral tradition, etc.. They have similarities in the background of creation, the superficial figuration, or the hidden meaning each other. But there is no evidence that proves the influence of Chinese allegories on Korean allegories. Besides the allegories that I introduced above, there are many works that have similarities in figuration between the allegories of Korea and China. I pose a problem how to explain the similarities between the allegories of Korea and China without the theory of influence.
China and Korea participate the creation and enjoyment of medieval civilization as a member of same cultural area, together. Literary men of Korea were accustomed to Chinese poetry and prose, and created literary works by adapting them.
Because the prose and poetry prior to China(先秦時代), or those of Tang(唐) and Sung(宋) were the common property of the Chinese cultural area, it is meaningless to dispute the nationality of literary works in this area. It is the way to participate cultural creation of civilization for Koreans to receive and remake the allegories of China. So, I think, it does not important whether the evidence, that proves the Chinese allegory's influence on Korean allegory, exist or not.
