The aim of this study is analogize the traditional techniques of trimming timber by seeing the traces of trimming timber which were in the Kwang-Chae(광채) of the Gwapilheon-Goga(果必軒古家). The traces of trimming timber are considered as of great value because they are the real remains of timber manufacturing technology. Through this process, We grasp the traditional techniques of trimming timber and make use of the traces and techniques of trimming timber which had not been studied yet as the basic material for studying the traditional techniques of trimming timber.
The procedure of this study is to get the rubbing of the timber structure of the Kwang-Chae of the Gwapilheon-Goga and inquire for some carpenters who had been building the traditional architecture for a long time, and state the techniques of trimming timber.
In the rubbing we only can see the techniques of trimming timber which was used lastly. We can see that adz was widely used because the adz was used in most of the techniques except the board materials.
In case of the main building, the surface of the structure material was finished by a plane. In case of the attached building, whereas, it is supposed that the finishing process was reduced to make the work easier.
