As the concerns about the waterfront environment have been increased, the river-recovery movements have been arisen throughout the nation in recent years.
Cheongju city has been developed along with a lot of rivers around, and changed the urban structure and landscape. The Mu-sim river, the representatives of the city, has experienced changes of three times recently; the first was in 1913, the second in 1939, and the third in 1967. Since the third one, the river has been put into today's landscape. And Gyo-seo river, which is located in the old downtown, but now covered, played a pivotal role as an open-space. By taking the two rivers into consideration. We can get closer to the solutions of urban problems. Besides, the method of managing river space and citizen participation is proposed.
