With the improvement of cultural life and the rising interest in art, the demands on the new forms of performance environment and diverse styles of performing art has increased. However, the quality of many performance hall equipments has declined and failed to meet the users' needs, resulting in low yearly usage rate.
In order to revitalize the use of cultural facilities, the improvement in equipments is needed to meet the new demands of users. Recently some old performance halls as Sejong Art Center have begun to make efforts to build a new performing environment through renovation, still maintaining their past temporal, cultural heritage as well.
In this concern, it is intended in this paper to discuss the new means for revitalizing deteriorated cultural facilities, through the case study of ‘A Art Center’ which was successfully renovated into a newer one to accommodate various types of performances and serve the audience's needs.
This study also intends to come up with the next two concepts: internally, to suggest various differentiated forms of performance environment through the planning of the specialization of each space, and to improve the users' convenience by fixing problems discovered from the existing cultural facilities; and externally, to propose a cultural facility functioning both as a component of urban context and the rest area for regional residents, through the designing of outer spaces and landscape.
