Pusan has seen a formation of squatter settlement for the purpose of temporary residence and not as a permanent one due to the social factors of the end of the Second World War and the Korean War in 1950 as well as its topographical and locational peculiarities, and as these squatter settlement districts being situated around downtown and on the high grounds have brought unsound residential environments and been a big hindrance to urban growth.
So far the government has pursued active projects to solve these problems with no distinctive results because of difficulties in administrative policy and finance.
Thus this study, in order to find out the characteristics of living conditions of squatter settlement district residents in Greenbelt which is one of the dispersed squatter settlemtnt districts in Pusan, compares and analyses with the present situations of overall squatter settlement districts and provide basic data for: the future improvement of residential environment.
