Bai Nationality is inhabiting concentration in Yunnan Province Dali area of China southwest, they have honored white colors from far ancient times and affect white clothes. Until current, they think that white is most precious color and white is the most beautiful color in the world. White colors had appeared within much ancient myths and history books of Bai Nationality.
Bai people’s white preference custom is appearing variously in several quarters continuously. (1) In idea of Bai people, white is color that express good with beauty, and represent truth, goodness, beauty. (2) Historically, ‘White’ was used all in name involved with Bai Naitionality and Bai People, They had called themselves as word which mean ‘White man’. (3) Totem’s objects of primitive religion and worship objects that appear in various kinds ceremonies are having white. (4) Used habitually white colors in everyday life. Specially, white use appears notedly in dress and its ornaments. Until current, white is main color of Bai people’s tradition dress. Among these phenomenon, custom that Bai people puts white dress is very remarkable.
About factors and origin of white worship, We have investigated on the basis of preceding researches, various history books and folklore data, and so on.
The result is divided to next four elements. (1) The effect of primitive religion and matrimony system that base on totem. (2) Effect of clear and cool nature environment of bai Nationality Area - with mild climate, high and blue mountains, clear and abundant water, and dean air etc.. (3) Effect of different peoples who honor white color. Specially, through interchange with nomadic peoples - for example, Diqiang Nationality, Mongo Nationality etc. (4) Effect of color concept of Buddhism Especially, Tibet Buddhism that get transmitted through Tibet.
