The purpose of this thesis is about the change of the diplomatic relation between Chos?n and France having three stages. Therefore it studies the relation for 120 years, from relation's starting to diplomatic break, and each stage's distinguish. According to the result, the relation between Chos?n and France runs as followers.
First, the relation between Chos?n and France started from the meeting French Catholic missionaries and Chos?n's officials. Second, the early years of the relation between Chos?n and France took the focus the French missionary organization in China and Chos?n Catholic Church's faith. Third, Chos?n Catholics tried to promote the movement to bring cleric constantly. In result, it was established the diocese of Chos?n, and Societe des Missions-Etrangeres de Paris was in charge of the diocese of Chos?n. Forth, because of French missionary's martyrdom, a political and military tension atmosphere could be felt in the two countries raises. Fifth, Chos?n-France friendship commerce treaty eased the tension. Finally, governmental relation between Chos?n and France for 19 years was ceased owing to deprive of Chos?n's diplomatic rights by Japan in 1905.
As a result, the relation between Chos?n and France for over one hundred years old was based on Christianism and Catholic Church. In this part, the relation between Chos?n and France was unique relation, compared with other country's relation.
