RC frames built prior to the advent of the philosophy of ductile concrete is one type of existing construction susceptible to damage. Strengthening and stiffening of such frames has been accomplished by infilled frames with cast-in-place, reinforced concrete walls. Placement of Cast-In Place(CIP) shear walls within strategic bays of a structure appears to be a logical and economical method to strengthen a reinforced concrete frame and to stiffen a building in order to reduced architectural and mechanical damage. In building construction, opening of shear wall usually required for accessibility and service line such as transportation and equipment. It is known that the main parameters affecting structural behavior of shear wall with opening is size, location, reinforcements and existence of openings.
This study investigates the seismic performance of cast-in place infilled shear wall with opening. For this, infilled shear walls were selected from three 1/3-scale, one-bay, one-story specimens were manufactured with variables; (1) walls without opening (CIP-1), (2) wall with opening (CIP-L1), and (3) wall reinforced diagonal bars with opening(CIP-L2). The test results show by diagonal reinforcing bars that the strength, stiffness, and energy dissipation capacity were improved. But, more studies are required for achievement of Wall-Column joint and construction capacity.
