The purpose of this study was to investigate the social and environmental differences which significantly influenced the house wives' perceptions on leisure in metropolitan area. This study utilized qualitative inquiry to explore the purpose of the research. Total of 8 house wives in metropolitan area were participated in the study. The results of the study were drawn following suggestions;
1. The participants perceived positively on their leisure and social environments.
2. The participants anticipated various types of leisure cultures and activities just for women, house wives more precisely. Although the participants experienced and tried various types of leisure programs for women, it was still necessary to be provided customized leisure cultures and programs.
3. The participants experienced unbalanced leisure time, so they relatively had difficult to continue to participated in leisure culture.
4. The participants complained on the excessive load of house work. At the same time, it was one of the most serious social barriers for women in society.
5. The participants were never taught leisure education throughout their education system.
It was a major factor of absence of family leisure culture in society.
In conclusion, leisure culture was the most important social issue in Korean society. Despite of various social and psychological barriers for house wives, they generally had vary positive attitudes toward leisure and leisure culture in society. Therefore, it was necessary to provide various types of leisure cultures and programs based on social, economical, and political background.
