In this paper, I searched the conception and distribution, position or the value, kind or variety of Sanga(山歌) which is a kind of chinese folksong. Also I studied the methods of singing and the contents or the subjects. Finally I compared Sanga with the korean folksong, especially with the a 〈woodcutter song〉 and 〈arirang〉.
Sanga is sung by the common chinese people, and spreaded especially in the mountain area or the meadow area. That area is very poor conditional land to live. So, many people sing a Sanga to express their emotion or thought.
Sanga attain a important position in traditional chinese folksong. And according to the extension of function, it classified original Sanga and a sort of Sanga. So, There are many kinds of Sanga in the point of name, methods of singing and composition of lyrics, melody.
The main function of Sanga is to express singer's interior mind or feeling. The main subjects are fortune or circumstances, love, political satire, warning to live, a pain of labor, praise the Communist Party or china revolution.
In comparing it with korean 〈woodcutter song〉, there are something in common, for examples, self-consolation, free rhythm, ritual, using a similar short refrain. Also comparing it with korean 〈Arirang〉 is another work subjected to us in the future. Substance is more important than melody or tune in two folksongs. and common quality is as follows; methods of singing a solo and exchange, diversity of function, spontaneous participation to perform publicly. literary and music archetype.
