The purpose of this paper is to show that the three discourse functions of English left-dislocation that Prince (1998) has observed are not instances of constructional homonymy but constructional polysemy. The term 'constructional polysemy' is used to show that the discourse functions of English left-dislocation are related each other. For this purpose, an abstract syntactic skeleton for both English left-dislocation and topicalization will be proposed to take one of the discourse functions as a main discourse function of English left-dislocation. The pragmatic notion 'exploitation' found in Levinson (1983 and 2000) is used to show the interrelatedness of the discourse functions of English left-dislocation.
