Recently there have been many debates about the issue of community of Northeast Asia actively for a few years but the relationship among three countries has yet to become intimate. The most definite and efficient way to get over this status is to understand others' culture and get intimate feeling with each other through interchanging emotion with some thing like as arts & culture. Thus there have been many discussions about exchanging arts & culture recently, but most of them are superficial. This study has examined and analyzed the status of te exchange of arts & culture among three countries positively on the base of accurate statistical data, pointed out the problems, and suggested an alternative proposal.
First, when consulting the area of literature, Korean literature has few in the number as well as they are concentrated to the specific writers. And also their translations are concentrated to English, French, German, and Spanish because they are concerning the possibility of winning Nobel prize for literature. Second, in the area of performance art, even though there is a variation, there have been incessant exchanges in play and dance. However there is a limit in the sense that they are yet staying in the superficial exchange dimension without reaching the place where they can understand others' culture. In addition, when considering their relationship of music among them, the exchange of traditional music is rare. Third, the exchange of visual art is relatively fair in comparing two areas mentioned above, it can be seen positive. But this exchange is also focused on paintings so it needs to seek the plan for exchange among other genres.
The reason why there exist problems in exchanging arts & culture is that Korea, China, and Japan have mainly received arts & culture from Western countries. Therefore the exchange of arts & culture is staying at the simple stage, literally, where they can not understand others' culture. It needs to research the issue on the identity of Northeast Asian area among three countries in dept through various kinds of symposiums to exchange arts & culture actively afterwards.
