Assuming that a fire-resistant cover made of inorganic polymer binder is used, this study examined its applicable optimal thickness and analyzed experimentally solutions improving the previous cover bonding methods. The following conclusions could be derived from the results.
The fire-resistant board using inorganic polymer binder and fire-resistant bond material developed stable heat-resistance that did not exceed the allowable temperature of the main rebar under conditions corresponding to 3 hours of standard temperature heating curve. The tested inorganic polymer fire-resistant board was verified to be able in preserving the member temperature withing the allowable limit in the case of a minimum thickness of 15㎜ satisfying the mechanical requirements.
On the other hand, the method compressing the whole surface by means of fire-resistant bonding material in order to prevent heat transfer at the gap of the bonded board without reducing the effective area of the structure was seen to form a heat transfer path to the member due to the thermal shrinkage of the bonding material regardless of the performance of the fire-resistant board, which could provoke spalling of concrete.
Accordingly, point bonding shall be performed using fire-resistant bonding material in order to assimilate the construction error of the fire-resistant board and prevent spalling of concrete. It appears also that improving the shape of the joint so as to ease filling with sealant together with adopting a filling method using fireproof sealant made of glassy ceramic material could be effective.
