Some folk tales have the story that “if a woman sympathizes with an object, the woman becomes to have a secret love affair.” Folk tales of such a type have been handed down while showing nationwide distribution. In this study, the folk tale of such a type is named as the folk tale of ‘demoralization’ and a folk tale handed down in Incheon was mainly used to develop a discussion.
It is said that a woman becomes to have a secret love affair if sympathizing with the sacredness of a rock for the type of a rock, an artificially-processed object for the type of a tombstone and with a topographical feature for the type of the physical aspect of a mountain, respectively. In these three types of folk tales, the object symbolizes the sexual organs of a man or a woman, which is sympathized with a woman and then makes a woman to have a secret love affair. It is said that if a specific behavior such as shaking, poking or looking at these objects is accompanied, it leads a woman to have a secret love affair. Sometimes village people hold sacred such an object and protect it not to be noticed by other ones or deform or destroy it not to be recognized with its original shape. In the type of a spring, the amour of a woman is regarded to be caused by ‘water.’ As the this type is focused on the reason why a great man has not been cultivated in Kyodong, the amour of a woman is created as a secondary matter.
As a group handed down such a folk tale has created not a man but a natural or artificial object as the counterpart of a woman’s immoral conduct, it threw all of the blame on the woman. If the object which encourages the amour of a woman exists, they believe that amour may occur at any time. It means that it did not occurred in the past but may occur now. And it makes people have a negative view of the women living in the area so that these women have various restrictions in social life. It is considered that such a folk tale about ‘demoralization’ is reflected directly with the social aspect of patriarchy as it is.
