This study made a qualitative research on the thoughts of residents in the island of Jinhae city about the city’s plan to make their residential areas into tourist attractions, in a bid to suggest directions for future development for the sake of the residents. A total of six residents of the Wu-do Island in Jinhae City participated in this study. Nvivo 2 Software was selected as a research tool for this study, to classify the recorded contents into categories by factors. As a result, the residents interviewed for the research were found to have strong attachment to their home island, and they were also found to be aware of the need to develop their home island considering the characteristics as an island. The residents recognized the positive aspects that can rise from the development, but at the same time, they were found to have strong concerns as well about the negative aspects that may be caused by the development. Such issues should be reflected in the development plan, which is promoted by the Jinhae city, in order to minimize damages that residents may suffer and to give benefits to the residents.
