This study focuses on applying performance-based design to building codes. It provides the formulated categorization method by investigating and analyzing the factors to establish performance-based building codes, and deduces performance requirement by extracting a requirement condition and performance item. Also, after quantitating evaluation items and methods for performance requirement and analyzing, it classifies the performance requirement and provides the process which is available to establish the performance criteria.
As a results, this study analyzes and confirms the problems of building codes. Also, it proposes that description of performance requirement should be divided into the primary performance which is available to quantitative estimate and the secondary performance available to qualitative estimate. In addition, it proposes that the necessity of the change of the management system and the shortening of revision time was present of Korean Architectural Standard Specification.
