In motion estimation, the choice of the search algorithm has a significant impact on computational complexity and image quality. However, previously used methods to compare the different algorithms did not take into consideration the direction of estimated vectors. This paper investigates the performance of three well-known fast block matching algorithms using a new metric based on motion vectors.
