The possibility of accidents related with the railway is relatively low but once it occurs the size of the accident is quite huge.
The fatal accidents that has occurred through out the world has arouse the awareness on safety and increased the interests on safety not only for railway but also for all kinds of issues. Due to this, industries that requires high trustworthy needs the appropriate understanding on it’s safety rules and also exact evaluations. In USA, UK and other European countries has already established a safety program regarding nuclear energy, chemistry and aviation. Also in Korea these kinds of safety programs have been introduced and currently being managed in the nuclear powerplants, chemistry related factories etc.
However, compared to other highly risky industries, the safety programs in the railway industry in Korea is relatively not established and managed well.
Through this study we can compare each safety programs for high risk industries. Also re-recognize the importance of the safety culture and consider the establishment of a new and specific evaluation safety program regarding the railway industry.
