When the ground fault and short circuit fault. The protection system of the AC feeder circuit must keep continuity of power supply by quick and accurately interrupt the short circuit. Lately, The construction of catenary is rapidly increased. Therefore, the electric railway is expected to accelerated by advantage of low carbon and high efficiency. Accordingly, the protection system is increased as the increment of the feeder circuit. However, the research about keep continuity of power supply by the protection system in the power feeding fault has not been done yet quantitatively. The power feed protection system of the Korea Railway had been composed on the doublet system of the distance relay and failure selective relay. But in case of the substation which is newly formed, the failure selective relay is omitted and the fault in the feeder circuit is being protected by only the distance relay. The verification about whether the protection of the feeder circuit by only distance relay is enough or the protection system must compose the doublet system is needed. So high resistance ground fault and extension, and the thought field in the tie feeder were analyzed, and the optimization of configuration of the power feed protection system was presented.
