The study aims to define various meanings of 'hometown' in poems written in the late 1930s. The 1930s were the era of 'hometown.' In the study on modem literature, 'the loss of hometown' during' the Japanese colonial nile unconsciously rreant the reality of Korean people. It stems from the fact that the modem era of Korea cannot be separated from colonial experiences, but all 'hometowns' that appear in poems written in the 1930s cannot be interpreted in terms of ethnicity. In this regard, the study divided the meaning of 'hometown' found in modem poems into four. First, it is yearning for a birth place or family (biological nostalgia). Second, it is a figurative expression for the Joseon Dynasty (nationalistic nostalgia). Third, it is longing fen' infinity expressed in the form of homesickness (romantic nostalgia). Fourth, it is to use 'loss of hometown' as a symbolic sign of a generation of people who lost a direction (generational nostalgia). Acoording to the above-mentioned classification, the hometown mentioned in poems written by Cheon-myeong Roh and Byeok-am Cho belongs to romantic nostalgia, and that described in real written by Gwarg-gyun Kim is a symbolic sign for a generation of people who lost their hometown. Checn-myeong Roh sublimed the hometown into an ideal world without di vision whereas Byeok-am Cho wanted to find a refuge in real world instead of sublimating the hometown.
