Given its complexity and transactions involving substantial amounts of money, the global digitalization of international trade faces its greatest task: to establish a high level of security system to ensure confidence in its transactions. Towards this end, eight world-renowned banks organized a consortium to establish Identrus, which will provide various services that include, but are not limited to: issuing certificates to corporations; transmitting various documents online; providing warranty for corporations issuing certificates, and; online payment.
The advent of the Identrus System represents the solution addressing the last hurdle to the embodiment of e-Trade. Likewise, it has opened the door to international online trade. Nonetheless, some of the tasks that need to be solved by the Identrus System include establishing national and industrial standards, creating business revenue models, developing a wealth of applications, active marketing for corporations, ensuring interchangeability among software and hardware, lower establishment costs, and continuous funding.
