The purpose of this paper is to philosophically review the basic ideas and framework of thoughts outlined below which are used as premises by cultural researchers in the twenty-first century.
Culture in its entirety is facing global crisis. In this study, cultural crisis will be defined as an initial approach. Then, a paradox of its relation to the results of natural science's remarkable development will be presented. Thus, an attempt to provide ideas toward overcoming this cultural crisis while focusing on the concept of humanity will be explored, as it addresses related issues from the viewpoints of cultural philosophy, intercultural philosophy and neuro-ethics.
Cultural studies in the twenty-first century are confronted by complexity as the global expansion and diffusion of cultural phenomena have enhanced the ambiguities of its representation. The rapid expansion of industrialization has also contributed to the deconstruction of traditional culture. Thus, the roles of cultural experts have increased and undergone transformation. These circumstances paved way to backlash, criticism and resistance against global culture from a local viewpoint wired with ethnic and minority culture, while on the other hand, creating a trend toward mediation or new integration with globalism. A typical expression which can be attached is 'glocalism'. These trends have also resulted in various cultures crossing national boundaries.
Consequently, it is becoming increasingly difficult to provide a definitive answer to the question of what exactly culture or Asian culture is. Additionally in today's cultural studies, it is necessary to take the aforementioned cultural complexity into consideration to look into a wide variety of individual cultural phenomena from a broad perspective. This study examines the relationship between the challenge of cultural crisis and neuro-ethics which deals with the study of ethical considerations in neuroscience and brain science.
This paper therefore seeks to illuminate the truth of a paradox that seriously challenges the traditional view of human beings and human nature based on which such a view is developed. Cultural studies, now face major challenges like the flagging of traditional cultures, the increased cultural fragmentation or complexity which are becoming more serious globally among peoples - particularly among minorities - irrespective of origin and economic background.
In view of cultural ambiguities, developments from the field of Philosophy, Science and Technology, are intended to give light to the very nature of our own cultural experience, as these critiques need to further clarify such ambiguity by pointing out dangers and crises. Such work should play an increasingly important role in securing humanity which serves as the foundation of culture, and in promoting sound development in more specific branches like morals, ethics, law, etc.
As an implication, cultural studies in the twenty-first century becomes increasingly important to actively promote research on cultural phenomena from complex viewpoints such as global, local and glocal ways of thinking.
