This article is projected to understand the autobiographical characteristic of Lee Kwang-Soo's writings. To perform this purpose, I choose three of Lee Kwang-Soo's texts. They are Perfume of Life, His Autobiography, and I. I call them pseudo-autobiographical type because they resemble autobiography but do not accurately become it. By writing pseudo-autobiographies, Lee Kwang-Soo wants to realize his desire for recognition and to escape from the inquires about his memory's reality. Those double aims make his autobiographical writing inconsistent. Being headed for autobiography, he runs away from it. He tries to make a narrative while he looks back into the past. In that process, he dose not revive memory but creates memory. Memory can do no other than conform itself to narrative, and his autobiographical writing brings about fiction. Pseudo-autobiographical type is yielded in the course of such writing. But it is impossible for him to escape from autobiography after Korean liberation from Japanese colonial regime. he writes My Confession in that circumstance. So My Confession is his only autobiography.
