Discrimination of epileptic electroencephalogram (EEG) signals has been considered as one of the most effective diagnostic procedures for epilepsy. While various epileptic feature classification approaches have been suggested, they showed high computational complexities. Here, we propose a new classification method consisting of time-domain differentiation, fast-fourier transform (FFT) and principal component analysis (PCA). Applied to the EEG data in the normal and epileptic subjects, our method achieved 99.75% sensitivity and 100% specificity for epileptic EEG classification. Also, we showed that the time window for classifying EEG signals could be further reduced to 0.74 second (128/sampling frequency) with >99% sensitivity and specificity, from 256/sampling frequency seconds which was employed in the previous studies. These results demonstrate the effectiveness of our method for accurate and rapid epilepsy diagnosis.
