Laozi’s expression is illustrated citing historical events in the Yu Lao of Hanfeizi. It has been persuading because the explanation is based upon the real events. However, the meaning of Laozi’s Paradox has been miscategorized and even misunderstood to the contrary.
It is Hanfeizi’s narrative description that introduces Laozi’s strategic tricks hard to understand. There is apparent causal relationship between events in the cited historical events of Hanfeizi’s Yu Lao. Hanfeizi mischaracterizes a series of historical events by restructuring the time ans space of events in order Laozi’s chapter 36 to be understood as strategic tricks. For instance, Hanfeizi intended to establish causal reationship by linearly enumerating the historical events relevant to “Attempting” and “Given” in “Attempt to obtain, comes given” of the Laozi's chapter 36. It develops a new meaning of tricks unprecedented on Laozi’s paradox.
Further, he induced the interpretation to be based on the value and ideas settled at the time through over-summarization of historical events. Readers need in advance knowledge about history to interprete the historical events cited on Hanfeizi’s Yu Lao. As a result, readers are accustomed to the traditional interpretation on implication and leap through learning process. It is the accustomization of knowledge and learning that Laozi desires to dissolve. Therefore, the interpretation of Laozi centering on the version of the historical events contradicts Laozi's paradox and loses its right direction.
It should be initially addressed the determination on the pitfall of Hanfeizi’s narrative description for Laozi’s paradox to seek its new narrative interpretation in the future.
