According to the New Environmental Paradigm Shift, Ecotourism as an alternative tourism has been introduced as one way to sustainable tourism under postmodern society, and recently has been openly discussed and received considerable attention.
This paper can be summarized as follows: First, as a postmodern tourism trend, alternative tourism consists of ecotourism, rural tourism, and natural tourism, which are based on conceptual differences among each other. Second, the concept of ecotourism can be devided into ecotourism in a narrow sense for only a few elites and in a broad sence for the general public. The Sunchon’s ecotourism promotion strategy is based on a broad sense. Ecotourism is a cultural-experience program designed to help people to understand ecology better. An innovative program that is opening up Sunchon named “Ecology Capital to the World” is the International Garden Exposition Sunchon by Korea, 2013, by city hall. The International Garden Exposition Sunchon by Korea, 2013 was huge potential to be one of the competitive tourism products as cultural ecological resources attracting visitors to local areas in korea. Also it will create a positive image for the Korean as a tourism destinations. In particular, Sunchon Ecotourism can be sustainable tourisms, keeping the principles in cultural tourism development. Finally, Sunchon Rural tourism should make an effort to bring educational effects and potential improvements in order to explore appropriate ecological literacy educations.
