Macbeth, which was believed to be performed at James l's court, deals with usurpation of the throne and the usurper's destruction. Therefore some critics claimed that it was written as a sort of compliment to the new king. James I and that it strengthened the theory of the divine right of kings. In appearance, really, Shakespeare seems to tell about the importance of order in the hierarchy.
Shakespeare, however, deconstructs this apparent theme by means of 'paradox' which is a characteristic figure of speech and writing in Macbeth Paradox reserves to determine on any human affairs definitely and fixedly. Shakespeare warns us that nothing has a fixed and unchangeable property or value by repetitive, circular and paradoxical plot in Macbeth. The more frequent use of the word 'double' in Macbeth than any other plays is probably related to the ambivalence of all beings. The witches play an essential position both in the plot and in the theme in Macbeth. Their ambiguous figure and language function like the prologue of disorder and paradox in this play. The paradoxical discourse spoken by the witches. "The fair is foul, and foul is fair" governs the whole plot of Macbeth. In other words. Shakespeare attempts to prove that the paradox is true in this play. Shakespeare describes Macbeth cruelly on purpose when he fought for the king. On the other hand, Macbeth hesitates and conflicts when he tries to assassinate the king. By means of these writing strategies Shakespeare shows us that the order based on the cruel violences cannot be always fair. So, we cannot tell definitely whether this play is written for or against the absolute monarchv.
