This paper has the intention to show an overview of power system in Brazil Railway. For that purpose, we analyzed Sao Paulo urban railway power system because it is a model of the country and the biggest system in Brazil.
Sao Paulo urban railway system has the subway system, the metropolitan train system and some junctions for passengers. The operation is managed by three companies, two in the subway, METRO and Via Quatro, and one in the metropolitan train, CPTM. Moreover, they have separate power systems.
In this paper, we presented the characteristics of two systems with showing differences between them. Furthermore, we presented some particularities of each power systems focused on the interconnection of the subway power system and the modernization/ standardization project of the metropolitan train.
In conclusion, we discussed about how these two systems are facing the new era of Brazil railway.
