Current structural health monitoring techniques are based on visual inspection or using cabled sensors to collect sensor data about status of a building or a bridge. However, the amount of cables required for a monitoring system is often more than thousands of meters, which is very costly. Moreover, the maintenance cost is also high and time-consuming due to the severe amount of cables. Therefore, many researches have been proposed structural health monitoring systems based on wireless sensors but they can hardly be used for safety monitoring due to low data rate, short operating time, and low data accuracy. In this paper, we present a wireless structural health monitoring system based on DuraNode which has high data rate, long operating time, and high data accuracy. Real-world experimental results show that the system is highly durable and reliable. The results also shows tbe feasibility of wireless sensor networks for structural health monitoring systems.
