Today in poetry writing of modern Sijo (traditional three-verse Korean poem), diverse orthographies are used. In the 21st century, diversity of such orthography discloses a problem making it difficult to separate modern sijo from modern free verse. In sijo literature of Chojeong Kim Sang-Ok (1920~2004), diverse kind of orthographies are used. It is why the study pays attention to the orthography of Chojeong’s sijo literature. The limit of the study is to pay attention to the orthography of Chojeong’s pyeong sijo, not examining all orthographies of modern sijo writers.
Examining an aspect of the orthography largely, out of 105 sijos recorded in [Chojeok] and [65 three-line poems] which are Chojeong’s early sijo collection, all works 91 sijos including 70 sijos of yeonsijo 2nd~ 5th stanza excluding jangsijo are single stanza non-metre style orthography of baehaeng by each chapter of chapter 1 and line 1. Out of the orthography of baehaeng by each phrase in 1st~3rd stanza of 2nd ~4th line in chapter 1 in [Fall Fragrance is Left Behind] and [Words of Zelkova] which were his late sijo collection, the orthography of baehaeng by each phrase in 1 chapter, 3 lines and 3 stanzas is more than 80% as 71 sijos out of 87 sijos of the late sijo collection. More than 80% of late sijo collection has the orthography of baehaeng by each phrase in 1 chapter, 3 lines and 3 stanzas. The study could see that diverse kinds of orthography were to overcome monotony in the orthography of traditional old sijo which was single stanza baehaeng by each chapter of chapter 1 and line 1. The study could also see that such attempt of Chojeong put more weight to readers than listeners based on literary value. Consequently diverse kinds of orthography in Chojeong’s sijo, first, expand aesthetic value of form and contents by regarding visual effect to be its target. Second, it offers convenience of scansion. Third, it makes classification of metre easy. Fourth, it offers expansion of meaning by delaying time of scansion. Fifth, it becomes a foundation to overcome monotony of 1 chapter-1 line single stanza baehaeng by each chapter and to offer creativity of expression.
