Diabetics are at higher risk than non-diabetics for developing foot infections. When diabetic foot ulcer becomes infected, amputation can be followed rapidly. A study was undertaken to demonstrate whether there was a significant difference in physiological response among different socks types. Two different style socks types were tested: V-shaped loose socks and H-shaped tubular socks. The material content of the socks was 55% cotton and 42% polyester with nano silver, and 3% polyurethane. Five subjects continued to sit and skin temperature, blood pressure, heart rate, and clothing pressure were taken. Each pair of socks was worn for twice. The data was statistically analyzed using paired t-test. The results demonstrated that V-shaped loose socks demonstrated a significantly decreased clothing pressure at the legs compared to the tubular shaped sock. V-shaped loose socks types had a beneficial effect as a form of pressure relief Overall comfort sensation was evaluated as more comfortable in loose socks than tubular socks.
