The most influential factor to the estimation of the effort, cost and duration of development in the early stage of software development is software size. Therefore, adequacy of estimated development effort, cost and duration is firstly dependent on surveyed and estimated size of software. The most representative barometer to estimate software size is Lines of Code(LOC) and Function Point(FP). Since FP is independent of development language or tool and advantageous for possible measurement at requirement analysis stage which is an early stage of development life cycle, FP was applied for development size measuring method of software in this paper.
Estimated value of software development duration was calculated by applying measured function point to the model which estimates development duration, and development duration was measured in accordance with project operation in real. Validity of development duration estimation model was experimentally verified by comparing two estimated development durations. Moreover, the reason of error generated from the difference between real development duration and estimated value was analyzed, and improvement direction was suggested.
