The purpose of this study is to provide the fundamental data for manufacturing of dress form, children's wear prototype by analyzing the elementary school girls' somatotype. The sampling was done for 9~10 year-old-girls participated in Size Korea(2004). Data from each girls comprises 87 items, including 61 items of height, girth, length, etc., using 3-D measurement 3DM and 26 items of thickness in which we measured side image of 3D body shape using Venus 2D program. Factor analysis, cluster analysis were performed for statistical analysis of the data.
The results of this study were as follows;
1. Seven factors, which explain 78.62% of the whole variances, were extracted. Factor 1 indicates horizontal size and vertical length of upper body, factor 2 indicates vertical size and buttock-related horizontal size, factor 3 is front side, factor 4 is back side of lower body, factor 5 is shoulder and armhole sizes, factor 6 is front neck and back chest side, factor 7 is center length of back and front upper body.
2. On the basis of the cluster analysis, three different upper body types were categorized. Type 1(26.0%) belongs to a largest body size, characterized by a slender but straight shape. Type 2(52.0%) belongs to an average size body with its buttock developed and curved. Type 3(22.0%) is characterized by a large and chubby but bended body.
5. Side silhouette shapes show that a conspicuous projection of buttock takes place and breast growth occurs as a clear indication of girls.
