This article is focused on the narrative structuralization of rumor that act as a motivation which has an influence on characters' act in narrative, especially in Yom's Sarang-kwa joi(The Love and the sin). A rumor is composed with combination of the core that has truth or fact and the shell that has the fictional story. Because of the rumor's duplicity made by the fact-truth and falsehood-fiction, a rumor appears in the society which restrict the freedom of speech. So the rumor function as one of the puzzle or code that should be interpreted by the analysis based on the way of making and circulation of rumor, irrespective of the truth.
There is two main aspects of rumor in Yom's Sarang-kwa joi. One is the scandal that illicit love between one woman and two men, father(Ryu Taek-su) and son(Ryu Jin). Another is the scandal that relationship of pseudo-incest between half brother and sister(brother Lee Hae-chun and sister Chi Sun-young). In the process of revealing the truth, rumors are treated not the falsehood but the fact. So the readers can find out the meaning of covered story that rumors are not the fictional story but the characters' desire and real truth and can forecast happy ending love story. But the real ending is not the happy conclusion. Because at that time in Korea, the young intelligent's social relationship have the political meaning so Lee and Chi's love is involved in a political event. And to conclude, rumor in Yom's Sarag-kwa joi is the groundless rumor at first because of the rumor's general properties but in the structural process of narrative the rumor is accepted as fact by the characters. So the rumor's function in narrative changes from the gossip or scandal of the relation between the sexes to the poignant love story between half brother and sister.
