Park Il-lo(朴仁老, 1561-1642) has attracted wide attention as a writer who adorned the beginning of the poetry history in the late Choson dynasty.
The poetry of the early Choson dynasty mostly eulogized the notional world of Neo-confucianism, while especially Nuhangsa, out of Park Il-lo's works, has been valued as showing a new aspect.
The main reason researchers have noted the work of Nuhangsa is that its realistic description based on experience, not on the notion, granted realism to the work.
Therefore, the work of Nuhangsa has been analyzed through the economic situation of the Choson society since the Japanese Invasion of the Choson dynasty in 1592, and through the Park Il-lo's prescription on a social stratum such Jaejisajok(the local Yangban literati) or Hyangban(the local literati-scholars).
It is because the same point can apply in that the poverty described in the work, whether considered as his own experience or as the reflection of the social reality in those days, revealed the needs of the times when the reality overwhelmed the notion.
On the contrary, this study analyzed the work 〈Nuhangsa〉 on the base of Park Il-lo' awareness on the notion of Neo-Confucianism, especially on one of its main themes, 'Anbinnakdo', which means the state of being content amid poverty and taking pleasure in acting in an honest way.
That is why there was no social indication of moving away from the notion of Neo-Confucianism in the 16th and 17th centuries.
Another reason for such analysis can be that Park Il-lo himself did not prescribe his own life as the fulfillment of the notion of Neo-Confucianism.
Therefore, this standpoint of the study will expect to give a familiar but fresh point of view to understand the work 〈Nuhangsa〉.
