The manners and customs in Lee Gi-young's peasant novels was a concept covering from character's consciousness to production system. At the earlier texts, the change of economic structure had led that of manners and customs. But at the latter texts, character's consciousness played an important role in changing the manners and customs. At former case, the manners and customs reflected the figures of characters, groups and society, at latter case, the manners and customs represented the changing social system aiming for changing.
At Lee Gi-young's peasant novels, the manners and customs was a cultural constituition of characters' unique thinkings, tastes, and somewhat of revolutionist. These formed the social networks among characters with similar tendencies. As a result, they established a new relation, new society, for which they wanted. That processes changed cultural capital into social capital or symbolic capital. Lee Gi-young's peasants novels showed the transition of such progress.
At Lee Gi-young's peasant novels, the activeness of character's consciousness was a source which changed cultural constituitions into cultural capital. Peasants took a superior position by differentiating themselves from others, and gained social capital by connecting themselves with people of simliar tastes. This transition, conspiring with the nation, linked socialism to symbolic capital. The main characters of Lee Gi-young's peasants novels, Dolshoi, Indong, Hwang Geun-oh, Ssidong, were showed that transitions. Consequently, the symbolic images of characters were connected with that of nation. Lee Gi-young's peasants novels had performed reproduction of socialism through the images of the manners and customs at that time.
