The Pei-Yang Pictorial News took an important position in the history of modern pictorials. It was an independent comprehensive pictorial published 1587 issues from July 7, 1926 to July 29, 1937, and represented the highest level of northern pictorials in modern times. This paper concerns its most representive and notable cover girls, show stars from 1926 to 1930, to explore their characteristics and the historical social background. Before July 1928, when Northern Expedition succeeded mainly, Shanghai movie stars were prevailing on the cover, they were not only the fashion models, but also “borrowed” by The Pei-Yang Pictorial News to intervene in the hot local topic. But after it, the pictorial created the name of “Drama Stars”, making it a new cover-girl group, impacted profoundly on production and transmission of the image of traditional Chinese Opera actors. And the election of “Four Actress Queens” proceeded the upsurge of “Drama Stars” to a climax.
