This article is based on the art situation in the early 20th century which is focused on the severe “change of perception” that is accompanied by the emergence of metropolis. Especially, “the emergence of the mass” which is inseparable from the big cities has changed the relationship with the art, appreciators, and buyers as well as using of leisure time. It provokes the shift of art paradigm which is linked to the termination and relativization of art value. Benjamin referred Baudelaire as a poet who responded the most sensitively to this change and analyzed the relations between writing of this poet and the custom of the mass in his research. Manet with other artists as well as Baudelaire who pursue the new things responded to this change sensitively and they could feel sympathy with it. This paper infers “the relationship with the modern art and the mass” from the analysis of Baudelaire by Benjamin through his psychoanalysis. The modern art is limited to the 〈tu’m〉 of Duchamp. It figures out the connection between the meaning of mass and art works, then looks for the meaning of the mass in the “discourse of analyst” of Lacan. It will be applied to Duchamp's work to explain how the emergence of the mass influence to the emergence and experiment of new art. It emphasizes that the psychoanalysis of Lacan clarifies the more meaningful basis in this context. In this point, it is designed to show that Lacan's psychoanalysis can attribute to provide more productive interpretation of modern art as a form of the art discourse.
